NIKKE Campaign Guide: Chapters, Recommended Power & Outpost Defense

3 stage types, Recommended Power, and how Outpost Defense levels up

TL;DR
Campaign is organized as Chapters → Stages, and each stage shows a Recommended Power — the Combat Power benchmark for clearing it smoothly. Entering a stage while UNDER that power applies a stat PENALTY to your whole squad, and the shortfall scales with how far under you are. There are 3 stage types: Destroy (defeat all targets before the timer runs out), Defense (stop enemies crossing your line — the line starts at 20 points, and normal/elite/boss enemies that get through cost 1/3/5 points respectively) and Base (hold the occupation score, both sides starting at 50-50, whoever reaches 100 first or leads when time runs out wins). Every 5 Campaign stages cleared (outside Story Mode) raises Outpost Defense Level by one tier, boosting resource output plus the variety/quality of bonus rewards; the Outpost itself only unlocks after clearing Stage 2-12. Story Mode (a story-viewing mode that strips out side battles and heavily reduces Combat Power) gives NO Lost Relics and does NOT count toward Outpost Defense Level.
Chapter/stage structure and Recommended Power

Campaign is organized into Chapters, each containing several Stages leading up to a boss fight at the chapter's end. Every stage clearly shows its Recommended Power — the Combat Power benchmark you should hit before attempting it. Entering a stage while your squad's power is BELOW that benchmark applies a stat PENALTY across the whole squad; the penalty scales with the gap — the further under, the harsher the penalty.

Once a chapter is completed, that chapter's Hard Mode unlocks — noticeably tougher stages in exchange for meaningfully better rewards.

The 3 stage types: Destroy / Defense / Base

Campaign alternates between 3 mechanically distinct stage types:

  • Destroy — defeat all enemy waves plus the main target before the timer runs out.
  • Defense — stop enemies from crossing your defense line. The line starts at 20 points; each enemy that gets through costs points by type: normal enemies cost 1, elites cost 3, bosses cost 5. Hitting 0 is a loss.
  • Base — hold the occupation score, with both sides starting at 50-50; whichever side reaches 100 points first, or is ahead when time runs out, wins the stage.
Outpost Defense Level — why Story Mode doesn't count

The Outpost unlocks after clearing Stage 2-12. Every 5 Campaign stages cleared raises Outpost Defense Level by one tier — a higher level means more self-generated resources and more variety/better quality bonus rewards.

Important detail: Story Mode (a fast story-viewing mode that strips out non-main-path and non-boss battles, and heavily reduces the remaining stages' Combat Power) gives NO Lost Relics, and stages cleared through Story Mode do NOT count toward Outpost Defense Level. Only clearing stages OUTSIDE Story Mode contributes to it.

EX Stages — bosses fixed at level 80, no auto-battle

Some Campaign boss fights are EX Stages — auto-battle is disabled, and every Nikke in your squad is TEMPORARILY fixed at level 80 regardless of how much higher their actual level is. This is the game's way of testing genuine manual skill/rotation execution rather than just how well you've built your roster.
